CHIAR DI LUNA, THE SYMBOL OF THE TICINO APERITIF

Over the years, the Bianco di Merlot has become the true symbol of the Ticino aperitif, being created from the grape that is the icon of this territory.
Chiar di Luna Merlot Ticino DOC is a historic label for our winery, produced since the second half of the 1990s, whose name derives from the dialectal saying "i ciar da lüna", a very common expression used to indicate a critical, difficult moment, especially from an economic point of view. This idiom is probably due to a reference to the dim light of the moon, which makes details and images difficult to see.

But what is the real origin of this saying?

As is well known, in the Swiss farming culture of the past, the size of harvests was imagined in relation to the cycles of the moon, in the 'reading' of which the full moons were of prime importance. When the full moons were irregular, poor harvests were expected, and when they were not, good harvests were expected and, consequently, economic prosperity.
