CARATO RISERVA 2017 - THREE GLASSES AT GAMBERO ROSSO's 2021 GUIDE

For 31 years, one of the first wines aged in Bordeaux barriques, and one of the best representatives of the Sopraceneri terroir. A wine of the Tannini breed, determined but skilfully smoothed by its passage in French oak barriques for two years.

A typically intense and elegant mineral Merlot. Our most representative merlot that embodies the young and innovative Delea tradition.

The 2017 vintage, characterised by the spring frost that drastically limited production, gave rise to this CARATO RISERVA, a power of nature with a decisive and straightforward character.

After alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature, the wine is aged for two years in new French oak barriques and one year in the bottle.

The Carato Riserva is produced with the best selections of Merlot grapes over 40 years old. The grapes are grown in the vineyards of the hilly parts of the Locarno area, they benefit from the best sunshine during the day and the cool night breeze, thus enjoying the best conditions for a perfect ripening.

The Carato Riserva 2017 rested for two years in new French Oak Barriques, called "Carati" in Italian. A wine of great structure that fully reflects the Terroir that generated it, of intense and spicy character of great aromatic finesse and elegance.

Organoleptic characteristics:

COLOUR: ruby red with violet reflections.

PROFUMO: intense, of black fruits, plums, noble spices, tobacco and slightly mentholated (Balsamic).

SAPORE: full, persistent and rich with an extraordinary length with a fresh and enveloping finish. Suitable for ageing.
