After 36 years, the great recognition: Great Master of Merlot 2019.
Back in 1983, the well-known restaurateur Angelo Delea had a vision: to personally produce some nice Merlot to offer the guests of his restaurant.
In 1984, he returned home after a trip to Bordeaux with three new French oak barrels which he had purchased at Chateau Beychevelle. From then on, he started to refine his Merlot in oak barrels with a great increase in quality (which was very appreciated by the clients).
Bottle after bottle, after 10 years of intense work, Angelo Delea built his wine cellar: a modern and functional building where he could increase the quality of the production of his Merlot.
Gradually the amounts of produced bottles grew and new types of wine were also produced such as the sparkling wine called Charme and other products such as Balsamic vinegar made with Americano grapes, grappa and distillates.
The heart of the passion of Angelo Delea always remains the production of Merlot. Gradually new vineyards are planted and lots of progress is made with technology. Constant and attentive studies are carried out in the field of wine production with the goal of continuously improving the quality of products.
About ten years ago Angelo Delea hired the oenologist Giuseppe Longhini (who studied at the university in Milan) as well as an external consultant, the university professor Giuseppe Meglioli, with the objective to perfect the production of his Merlot and to get closer to his ideal Merlot. This group of experts, including the son David and other selected collaborators, constantly work very intensely (with analysis, work in the wine cellar, long wine tasting sessions and interesting discussions) aiming at getting as close as possible to the perfection of each wine. This, of course, fully respecting the peculiarities of each grape variety, the characteristics of the territory and the evolution of each different year.
After many years of sacrifice, hard work, commitment and attention to detail, Angelo Delea and his group made their dream come true. After 36 years, the maximum recognition was achieved: Master of Merlot 2019.
On 21.05.2019 Vini & Distillati Angelo Delea SA was awarded with numerous prizes: in addition to the nomination Prix Gran Maestro du Merlot 2019he was granted the Prix Meilleur Millésimes Anciens and numerous silver and gold medals.This important milestone presents an incentive to continue in the same direction in order to create new and intense emotions always with the same love and passion!
