TRE BICCHIERI GAMBERO ROSSO GUIDE 2022 TO CARATO RISERVA 2018! THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR FOR OUR "CARATO" LINES

October 01, 2021 2 min read

CARATO RISERVA MERLOT TICINO DOC
Famous for its red wines, the Canton of Ticino has been producing quality wines for more than a hundred years, with the first Merlot vine planted back in 1906.
Ticino's total of 1090 hectares of vineyards extend throughout the region and are divided into two areas: the Sottoceneri, with its rich, deep clay soil and a climate that is very close to the Mediterranean, creates wines of great elegance and smoothness, and the Sopraceneri, with its cooler climate and rather stony soil rich in sand and silt, where wines perfect for ageing are produced.
From the tasting of 250 labels, the Gambero Rosso Guide 2022 awarded, for the second year in a row, our Carato Riserva Merlot Ticino DOC 2018, giving it the maximum score: the TRE BICCHIERI. Our Carato line has been very successful over the years in the comparison with the sommeliers of this guide, obtaining the first Tre Bicchieri in the 2020 edition, where our Carato Merlot Ticino DOC excelled. Winning this prestigious award has only increased the notoriety of our niche products, such as Carato Riserva.

 Gambero Rosso

Gambero Rosso is now a leading platform in the Italian wine sector. To be included among the labels tasted by a jury made up of the best Italian sommeliers is a great honour, especially when they are the ones to reward the history of our Ticino wines.

CARATO RISERVA MERLOT TICINO DOC 2018

Intense ruby red with violet hues.

Deep and dense. Sweet, initially reminiscent of cassis and blackberry, then leather, light tobacco, eucalyptus, tea leaves, balsamic.

Full, gritty, voluminous, long and persistent, at the same time elegant and spicy, with great structure and suitable for ageing, 15 years.

Carato Riserva is made from the best selections of Merlot grapes from vines over 40 years old. The grapes are grown in the vineyards of the hills of Locarno, where they benefit from the best sunshine during the day, and from the fresh night breeze, the grapes enjoy the best conditions for a perfect ripening.

Carato Riserva rests for about two years in new French oak barriques, known in Italian as "Carati". A wine of great structure that fully reflects the terroir that generated it, with an intense and spicy character of great aromatic finesse and elegance. Excellent with fine meats, fillets, pigeons, barbecued chops and game.
